The year is now. The place is a dying small town propped up by flagging tourism and one last exploitative industry. Most places are like that. One place to get a “real job” and then a vast scruff of service industry jobs and gig work. Recent efforts by the regressive government in power (it was more regressive in the past, it will be more regressive in the future) have loosened constraints on farming and meat production especially. The insatiable hunger for protein demands ever more efficient systems of exploitation.

At the same time the regressive government (it was less regressive in the past, it will be less regressive in the future) has increased its efforts to curtail the population of undocumented residents. It dispatches unmarked vehicles filled with masked and unidentified pseudo-police to snatch people off the streets, from their homes and from places of business. Their employers lobby to prevent such abductions from occurring during the workday, due to the decrease in productivity they tend to produce.

Lastly, some number of people in the world have adopted the use of a device called Voor’s Head.
